Just eight months after it last sold, a Toronto house with one bedroom down in the basement is back on the market.
Located at 11 Jersey Avenue in Toronto’s Little Italy neighbourhood, the semi-detached home hit the market on Wednesday with an asking price of $999,000.
It’s certainly not your typical one-bedroom Toronto home, featuring 24-ft cathedral ceilings on the main floor that make it feel even bigger than it is. It’s a modern, open-concept house with concrete floors, a sizable, stylish kitchen, and a fenced-in backyard.
As attractive as all of those features are, when it comes to this house, the most prevalent question on a buyer’s mind is likely “but how cramped is the basement?” And the answer is, truthfully, not that cramped. It’s underpinned and has 8.5-ft ceilings, so having to duck your head under basement doorways is not a worry here. There’s also heated flooring to make things cozier, and windows — albeit basement-sized ones — to let in sunlight. Attached to the bedroom is one of the home’s two bathrooms with a large bathtub.
“It’s a beautiful master suite,” said listing agent Bianca Johnson of Hadden Homes. “You don’t feel like you’re in the basement.”
Although a basement bedroom may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the neighbourhood alone that this Toronto house is in is likely to attract some interest.
“Eleven Jersey sits in one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods Toronto has to offer,” Johnson said. “[It’s] mere steps from fantastic shops, Harbord Village, award-winning College Street cafes and restaurants, farmers markets, parks, and great schools.”

The house was last listed in July 2021 for $899,000 and sold one week later for $1,262,000. Between then and now, $20,000 was invested in upgrades, Johnson said, including fresh paint throughout, custom closets, new doors and cabinets, new fixtures, and renovating the main bathroom. With that in mind, the final price once the home sells is likely to be well over asking.
